For the 32nd year, one of the most popular art shows featuring 75 talented Southwest Michigan pottery & sculpture artist’s creations will be on display for purchase.

The West Michigan Potters Guild invites the public on Friday, November 13 from noon to 9pm and Saturday, November 14 from 9am to 4pm to the Cultural Center at St. Nicholas located at 2250 East Paris SE in Grand Rapids.

Brewery Vivant wins sustainability award

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- A local brewery is getting honors from regional business leaders for its efforts to save energy and reduce waste.

Brewery Vivant is being named as the "Sustainable Business of the Year" by the West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum. It sends less than 1-percent of its waste to incinerators, donates profits and volunteer time to local charities, and purchases electricity generated from renewable sources.

The brewery itself is in a LEED certified building -- and is the first brewery to be in that type of building in the U-S.

Applebee’s will be serving 7 different free meals to Veterans and Active Military on Wednesday, November 11th.

Red Robin Restaurants will be offering a free Tavern Double Berger with Bottomless Steak Fries at all of its restaurants on November 11th. They will also be offering a 20% discount at participating restaurants from November 12 – December 31.

Red Lobster is offering a free appetizer and dessert from Monday, November 09, 2015 to Thursday, November 12. They have put together a special menu for both items.

Kava House sold, moving in "new direction"

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- A popular coffee shop in Grand Rapids' Eastown neighborhood has been sold and will move in a "new direction," the owners have announced.

Mother and daughter Pam Murray and Leigh Vander Molen announced the sale in a statement Tuesday evening. Kava House has been open for 23 years.

Murray and Vander Molen said little at this point about what's planned for the property, which sits on Lake Drive between Robinson and Wealthy, but they did say the new tenant is a joint venture between Rowsters Coffee and chef Joel Wabeke. Wabeke formerly worked at Terra GR before most recently working as chef de cuisine at Detroit's Wright and Company.

Kava House's last day will be Friday, November 20.

1 shot during robbery attempt in G.R.

The Grand Rapids Police Department tells WZZM 13 a 43-year-old man has non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in the 2900 block of Marshall Ave. SE, near Park Place Apartments in the area of Eastern Ave. and 28th St. The shooting happened during an attempted armed robbery; during a scuffle, the would-be robber's gun fired. The victim was struck twice in the leg. He was taken to a hospital.

The suspect ran away from the scene.

G.R. crews free worker pinned by steel beams

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Emergency crews responded to a Grand Rapids business where an accident trapped a man under several beams Tuesday evening.

Around 7:30 p.m., a worker called 911 saying he'd been trapped by several steel beams at 1222 Burton St. SE. That's the address of the Armada Group's headquarters. The Armada Group's website says it's a collection of manufacturing, construction, and real estate companies, including Steel Supply & Engineering.

The fire department brought in special equipment to lift the beams off the trapped man. Medical personnel were also brought in to begin treating the man while workers continued freeing him. He was trapped for about an hour, getting freed around 8:40 p.m. He was communicating with emergency workers throughout the process. The extent of his injuries are this point are unknown. He was hospitalized.
