Soap Box Derby Event Hosted by Immanuel Reformed Church

News Release:

(Grand Rapids, MI, March 30, 2011)- Immanuel Reformed Church, located at 1300 East Beltline Avenue in Grand Rapids, MI.,  would like to invite Grand Rapids and its surrounding communities to join them and participate in the 1st annual "Down Hill Derby."

On May 15, 2011, from 12:30-6:00pm, the tranquil grounds of Immanuel Reformed Church will be transformed into  "Immanuel Motor-Free Speedway."  We're going to drop the engines and bring back an old American pastime, soap box derby racing!

We’re inviting teams from around the community to design, build and race their best cars down our hill for a shot at great prizes and soapbox derby glory!  Racers will be broken up into four different age categories.  Colt (6-11 year olds), Mustang (12-17 years), Stallion (18-49 years) and Super Stallion (50 and up).  Each racer is guaranteed a minimum of two races or heats per age class.RE

2nd Annual West Michigan Racecar Show From Mar.10-12th

Motor racing enthusiasts will see various vehicles on display at the 2nd Annual West Michigan Racecar Show, at Centerpointe Mall (3665 28th St. SE), from Mar. 10-12th, 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Exhibitors include regional racing venues, a vendor's area with racing supplies and representatives, as well as vehicles ranging from cars, trucks, motorcycles, go-karts to lawn mowers. The show's 2011 charity is the March of Dimes.

Grand Rapids Christian High School basketball team to host 'Purple Game' for cancer research

GRAND RAPIDS - Boys' and girls' varsity teams from Grand Rapids Christian High School and East Grand Rapids High School will compete this Friday while raising money and awareness for cancer. This family-friendly event features the sale of purple T-shirts and jerseys, concessions, and half-time entertainment, all in support of cancer research at Van Andel Institute.

The color purple symbolizes cancer survivors. Every dollar raised goes directly to cancer research at Van Andel Institute. Donations will be accepted.
