My Town: Author of “How to Walk to School” addresses need for strong neighborhood schools

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- Jacqueline von Edelberg will tell the story of how she and other neighborhood moms galvanized their community to transform a struggling neighborhood school into one of Chicago’s best at an event on Thursday, March 12 at Congress Elementary School.

Von Edelberg co-authored the book “How to Walk to School: Blueprint for a Neighborhood School Renaissance,” which inspired East Hills Loves Congress and the Congress neighborhood/school initiative.

Aquinas College has been selected as the recipient of a $25,000 grant from the Douglas and Maria DeVos Foundation. The Believe to Become Summer Learning Academy grant will fund the AQ College Prep Academy, a summer dual-enrollment college prep experience for high school students in Grand Rapids Public Schools.

“We appreciate the Foundation's confidence in Aquinas,” said Dean of Curriculum Kathy Kremer, Ph.D. “Completing college courses and prep activities on our campus over the summer will set the students up for success in higher education.”

Vista Charter Academy Participates in Random Acts of Kindness Week 2015

The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs have released a list of the U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most 2014-2015 Fulbright U.S. Scholars. The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government's flagship international educational exchange program. Top-producing institutions are highlighted annually in The Chronicle of Higher Education. According to the Chronicle’s website, Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Mich.) is one of just six bachelor’s institutions in the nation to have at least two faculty members awarded prestigious Fulbright grants in 2014-15.

My Town: Students jump their way to healthy hearts

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--On Friday, Feb. 13, 1st – 5th grade students of Vista Charter Academy raised awareness for heart health by jumping around.
