Grand River Prep's first graduating class exceeds all ACT state averages

Grand River Preparatory High School’s first graduating class exceeded all ACT state averages by at least a full point and had an average composite score that was 1.6 points higher, according to a report released today by the American College Testing program (ACT).

“Today’s report highlights the great results that come from hard work,” said Grand River Prep Principal Koree Woodward.  “We are dedicated to guiding our students down a path that will lead to life-long success and they are committed to putting in the effort that will help to position them for college.”

As part of the ACT report, the organization outlined a recommended five-step action plan called College Readiness for All.  Grand River Prep’s current curriculum already features all five of the recommended components, including:

The 2012-2013 school-year for the Alliance of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Grand Rapids officially kicks off on Thursday, August 23 when more than 500 Catholic school educators, administrators and pastors will gather for the annual “Back to School” Kickoff.

Hosted by the diocesan Office of Catholic Schools, the “Back to School Kickoff” celebration will be held Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cathedral Square Center, 360 Division Ave. S. in Grand Rapids.  

“This is an opportunity to gather our Catholic school educators in one place to start the year with a word of encouragement and to focus on the identity and mission of our Catholic schools,” said Mr. David Faber, superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Grand Rapids. 

Wellspring Prep to host open house events for prospective students

Wellspring Prep to host open house events for prospective students

Wellspring Preparatory High School will host open house events for prospective students and their families on Tuesday, Aug. 14, Thursday, Aug. 16 and Wednesday, Aug. 22.  Each day will feature two one-hour open house sessions, beginning at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.  The school is located at 1031 Page Street NE in Grand Rapids.

The open houses will feature a presentation from Wellspring Prep’s assistant principal and tours of the school. 

Wellspring Prep promotes academic excellence that directly leads to college entrance and success. Employing a rigorous college-prep curriculum and an emphasis on moral character, Wellspring Prep fosters high achievement, personal growth, and character development for every student.

GRPS comments on AYP/Priority schools list

The Grand Rapids Public Schools Superintendent Teresa Weatherall Neal issued the followed statement in response to the Michigan Department of Education’s release of Priority/Focus/Reward schools list and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) reports.
 
“First and foremost, we commend Governor Snyder, Superintendent Flanagan, the Michigan Department of Education, and the State Board of Education for maintaining high standards and expectations of our public schools, staff, and students.
