Inside Market Hall: Miss Maddie's

Inside Market Hall: Miss Maddie's

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—A family of entrepreneurs is showcasing its culinary skills in the newly opened Market Hall.

Lindsey Shaw and Amanda Sheehan teamed up with their mother, Gail Schoenborn, to open Miss Maddie’s.  The business is named after Sheehan’s daughter.

“Family is critically important to us, and we wanted to create a new business that we could grow for our children,” said Shaw. “Our family has cooked together generation-to-generation and we are eager to bring the flavors of our home to the Downtown Market.”

Miss Maddie’s features gourmet pasta sauces, butters and deli salads created by the trio.  The women had cooked up their products at home for family for several years before deciding to move into Market Hall’s 5,000 square foot incubator kitchen.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Another space in the Grand Rapids Downtown Market’s Market Hall is filled.

Market officials announced Tuesday a new fishmonger will be selling fresh fish when the building opens to the public August 26.  After helping lead two fish retailers in Seattle’s famous Pike’s Place Market, Jeff Butzow decided to found Fish Lads of Grand Rapids.   Butzow’s new shop will offer a variety of local freshwater fish as well as seafood from the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, flown in fresh daily.  The business will also maintain a watch list of seafood to avoid because it’s being depleted by overfishing.

Construction workers are putting the finishing touches on the 138,000 square foot Market Hall.  The LEED-certified space features 24 vendors and two full-service restaurants, including a micro-brewery.
