This Mexican Rice is very good

This Mexican Rice is very good

I found this recipe on the Food Network/Pioneer Woman a couple weeks ago, it sounded good and so I made it. I really thought it was very tasty. I did not have cayenne pepper but used red pepper flakes instead and it still turned out just great. I did find I used a little more chicken broth than the recipe called for. I will certainly make it again.

Opinion: It's my Point of view on St. Mary's Church

Opinion: It's my Point of view on St. Mary's Church

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the oldest Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MI. and what a pretty church it is. Today there were several vases of pink roses, I’m guessing maybe from their May procession? When I looked around the church, I’m guessing there was maybe 50 people or less at 5 o’clock Mass. I thought how sad. It is very evident that the older people at Mass who do take part in helping Father Nolan are there because they want to be, very dedicated.

I belong to Holy Spirit Parish on the west side of Grand Rapids but every so often I get the urge to go to Mass at St. Mary’s; it kind of brings me back to reality, makes me remember my childhood parish in Northern Michigan.

OPINION: Jazz at the Zoo no longer at the Zoo

OPINION: Jazz at the Zoo no longer at the Zoo

I for one, was really disappointed to hear that Jazz at the Zoo is moving downtown to the Ah-Nab-Awen Park this year. I loved the atmosphere at John Ball Park at the old band shell.

No matter how hot it was when I left home for the concerts, soon after arriving at the Zoo and getting settled, along came a breeze and the shade from the big, beautiful trees only added to the enjoyment.

I wrote an e-mail to the Jazz Society and below is the answer I received from Donna at that address. As much as I appreciate her reply and explanation it really won’t do much for me when Jazz at the Zoo time comes along.

Giving Blood is a great way to help People

Make a lifesaving difference. If you are 17 years of age or 16 years of age with a parents’ consent, healthy, and weigh at least 110# or more, you may be eligible to give blood. 16 year olds must bring a consent form from a parent.

Michigan Blood is holding a Blood Drive at Wyoming City Hall from 8:00am – 12 Noon on Thursday, April 23rd. Donors must sign in with a photo ID or two forms of non-photo ID.

This is a great way to help several people with the donation of a pint of blood.
