Kava House sold, moving in "new direction"

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- A popular coffee shop in Grand Rapids' Eastown neighborhood has been sold and will move in a "new direction," the owners have announced.

Mother and daughter Pam Murray and Leigh Vander Molen announced the sale in a statement Tuesday evening. Kava House has been open for 23 years.

Murray and Vander Molen said little at this point about what's planned for the property, which sits on Lake Drive between Robinson and Wealthy, but they did say the new tenant is a joint venture between Rowsters Coffee and chef Joel Wabeke. Wabeke formerly worked at Terra GR before most recently working as chef de cuisine at Detroit's Wright and Company.

Kava House's last day will be Friday, November 20.
