News

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- The daughter of a bicyclist killed in Grand Rapids Wednesday says he had gone to the store to buy bread.

A pickup truck hit and killed 64-year-old Laverne Washington at the corner of Eastern and Ken-O-Sha Industrial Drive in Grand Rapids, around 3:30 p.m.

Washington's daughter confirmed her father's identity on the WZZM 13 Facebook page. She says her father rode his bike everyday. Wednesday, she was waiting on the porch for him to return -- but he never came back.

Washington was riding through the intersection when a pickup truck turning onto Eastern hit him.

Police said they don't believe alcohol or drugs were factors.
