Students Travel to National BPA Competition, Advisor Recognized into BPA Hall of Fame

News Release:

Forty four Davenport University students qualified to attend the 2015 National Leadership Conference for Business Professionals of America (BPA) in Anaheim, California May 6-10, 2015. Business Professionals of America members are provided an opportunity for the development of leadership skills, personal and professional growth, and career-related competencies. Involvement in Business Professionals of America enhances social awareness, civic responsibility, and understanding of the business community. The 44 students attending this year’s conference qualified by placing in the top three or top five at the state competition. At the National Leadership Conference they will be competing against colleges and universities from over 24 states including Northwood University, University of Michigan, Montcalm Community College and many more.

Ron Draayer, Senior BPA Advisor at Davenport University and National Board of Trustee Member for Business Professionals of America, will be honored with the 2015 Hall of Fame Award at this year’s conference for his contributions at the national level to BPA. Draayer will also receive an award for his 35 years of commitment to BPA.

Davenport University BPA Advisor Brian Kowalczk will also be receiving an award for his five years of service to BPA.




At the 2014 National Leadership Conference, Davenport University’s Chris Lammers (Grand Rapids) successfully defended his 1st place title in Network Administration using Microsoft. Crystal Roberts (Holland) was also a defending national champion in Banking and Finance, and the Grand Rapids Network Design Team of Gene Bursley, Chris Lammers and Shannon Shovan were also defending national champs. Chris Lammers (Grand Rapids) won two 1st place individual events and a team event. In addition to BPA competitions, 12 industry certifications for IT were awarded to Davenport students.
