Kids get started on running for fitness

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - In less than two months, runners from around the world will line up for the Fifth Third River Bank Run in Grand Rapids and a campaign that kicked off today hopes to encourage more children to get involved in fitness, and maybe one day, run the race themselves.

The Feelin' Good Mileage Club will involve more than 40,000 children at 120 elementary schools in West Michigan. Students will walk, jog or run around their school tracks and receive punches on 'Mile Marker' cards to earn recognition and prizes.

The Mileage Club held its kickoff at the Martin Luther King Leadership Academy Monday afternoon. The campaign runs through May 6th, three days before the River Bank Run.
