Line outside Toys R Us appears shorter than past years'

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Some people are now relaxing after their Thanksgiving dinner, but many bargain shoppers lined up waiting for West Michigan stores to open, some of which did by 5 p.m.

Toys R Us on 28th St. near the East Beltline had a relatively small line of customers outside before the store opened. Soon after opening, the line dissipated, and new arrivals could walk into the store without any wait.

That's compared to the hour-and-a-half wait one shopper described experiencing a few years ago, when the store opened at 8 p.m.

The shoppers who did wait in line to get in say they believe it was worth it, since they're picking up items they don't think the can get any other time, especially at a discounted price.

There was a line at nearby Best Buy, too. One woman there said she waited for hours to get a television for $199. She said her family was with her and she wasn't missing a Thanksgiving meal somewhere. Elsewhere in line, a man said he was missing his family's gathering but was looking forward to spending Christmas with them.
