Are You Prepared for an Emergency in a Wilderness or Remote Environment?

The American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids introduces its newly revised Wilderness and Remote First Aid course, which is designed for scouts, outdoor enthusiasts and people who work in remote wilderness environments.

The American Red Cross course is based on the Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines with enhanced content to meet OSHA's Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Programs. The courses offer flexibility for organizations and their instructors to adapt the training to varying environments, from camps and parks, to remote occupational settings.

The 16-hour Wilderness and Remote First Aid course gives people the hands-on skills needed to respond in an emergency when help may be delayed. The course includes training on:

Grand Rapids, MI – The American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids announced that June 1-7 is CPR/AED Awareness Week, highlighting the launch of the “Next Generation” of Red Cross health and safety training programs.

The new First Aid/CPR/AED programs for Lay Responders and Professional Rescuers train individuals in workplaces and communities to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illness until more advanced medical personnel arrive. Course offerings include training in Automated External Defibrillation (AED), Bloodborne Pathogens Training, First Aid, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The programs incorporate the latest science, meet OSHA guidelines and now offer:

  • 2-year certification in First Aid/CPR/AED with free digital refreshers

 

  • Choice of free digital or affordable print course materials

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -  I just attended my first TEDx session and it was an eye-opening experience.  TEDx Grand Rapids drew a sold out crow of 600 people to the Civic Theatre downtown.

MICHIGAN – In recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of non-violence, helping those in need, and giving back to our communities; Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan (PPWNM) is collecting donations for domestic violence shelters in our local communities throughout the month of January. Together with Planned Parenthood affiliates across Michigan, PPWNM is participating in this special project in honor of the late Dr. King Jr.’s birthday, January 15, and national holiday, January 17.

“We see the result of domestic violence and sexual abuse at our Planned Parenthood health centers on a regular basis, so we want to show our support for victims with this project,” said PPWNM Vice President of Medical Services Bridget White. “Often women fleeing from domestic violence situations leave with nothing.
