We have some amazing summer reading programs for kids.  Sign up as early as possible so you can make the most of them.  Not all of the details have been announced, so check back for updates!

TONS of Free Outdoor Summer Music Concerts!

We have great activites you can do with your kids for very little, if any, money. There are a ton opportunities to see live music in a casual, outdoor setting. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket, and grab the bug spray. Jazz, blues, doo-wop, or rock – we’re jammin! Many of the summer lineups haven’t been announced yet, but stay tuned! I promise there will be music in the air!

May 6 6:30 – 8:30 PM.  Jazz at the Zoo.  Fridays through August 15. John Ball Park Band Shell, 1300 W. Fulton St., Grand Rapids. Bring a blanket or chair. Free Admission. Donations accepted.

June 8 6:30 PM Blues On the Mall, Wednesdays through August 3. Rosa Parks Circle.

NEW Downtown Farmers Market!

Beginning June 2, 2011, the David D. Hunting downtown YMCA will hold a Farmers Market in the back section of their parking lot.   The market will take place on Thursdays from 3pm to 7pm.    Fresh fruit and vegetables will be available and Michigan Bridge Cards, cash or debit cards will be accepted!   Visit the Farmers Market Facebook page for more details.

Community Holds Huge Plant Sale

KENTWOOD, Mich.  The Bailey's Grove Retirement Community is holding its 2nd annual perennial plant sale this weekend.  The plant sale is a fundraiser for the low income senior community which is HUD subsidized.  Organizers say they will a wide variety of perennials on sale ranging in price from $6 to $10.

Buyers will have 700 plants to choose from.  The sale is located at Bailey's Grove Retirement Community located at 5252 Bailey's Center Dr. SE in Kentwood.  It is behind the Childtime Day Care Center at 52nd street and East Paris.  The plants are on sale from May 13th through May 17th between 9:00am and 7:00pm.

A similar sale is going on at Oak Ridge Retirement Community located at 3781 Giddings Avenue SE in Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -  I just attended my first TEDx session and it was an eye-opening experience.  TEDx Grand Rapids drew a sold out crow of 600 people to the Civic Theatre downtown.
