Many Construction Improvements in the Ada/Cascade Area
Many Construction Improvements in the Ada/Cascade Area

There is a lot happening in the Ada/Cascade area with construction that started on July 27th and will run through October 31st.

In Cascade, near the original Town Hall, changes will be made to the Museum Gardens, redesigning it to encourage more interaction. There will be new trees planted along with new plants, a sculpture pad, musical interaction pieces, soft lighting and new seating.

Old 28th Street will be realigned to reduce speeds when approaching and entering Cascade Rd from the east. This intersection will continue to be a right turn only but closer to a 90 degree angle. New sidewalk will be included in this project also.

There will be enhanced intersections in the 28th St/Cascade Rd area replacing new concrete pavement with colored and stamped concrete to highlight crosswalks, wider crosswalks, upgraded ADA ramps and traffic signal mast arms. These same improvements will be made at Thornapple River Dr & Cascade Rd intersection. Within these same areas, a mid-block small island will be placed for the safety of people crossing the 4 lanes of traffic at an area where there is no light.

Kent County Road Commission will modify and improve the right turn lane movement onto Cascade Rd. from Thornapple River Dr. This is being done in conjunction with the DDA project.

The City of Grand Rapids will be upgrading the sewer lines in the Old 28th St. area to address the sewer capacity issue and replace the aging sanitary force main. This project will be done in conjunction with the DDA project also.

Please be aware of all these projects when traveling these areas during construction time.
