New Grand Rapids 'points' program encourages recycling!

mygrcitypoints.com is an innovative community engagement program that links individuals, organizations, local businesses and city government to encourage recycling, volunteering and community building. This first-of-its-kind, local rewards program allows participants to earn points by recycling or volunteering. Points can then be redeemed at local businesses for discounts on products and services.

The first phase of mygrcitypoints.com will allow Grand Rapids residents to earn points based on how much they recycle.  It’s easy and free - just follow these three easy steps to make mygrcitypoints.com work for you:

1. Sign up online for the mygrcitypoints.com program.
2. Obtain a FREE blue Single Stream Recycling Program cart, issued by the City.

Come one, come all to the greatest show in town, and get lost in the power of a great story! Live 1930's era music and a short presentation about the work RIF is doing in the Grand Rapids community, followed by the new film Water for Elephants, starring Reece Witherspoon and Robert Pattison. All proceeds will benefit Reading is Fundamental and the students of the Grand Rapids Public Schools.

Tickets may be purchased at any Grand Rapids-area Schuler Books & Music location, or by sending a check to: RIF/GRPS Hillcrest Building 1415 Lyon NE Grand Rapids, MI 49503. Please make the check out to RIF/GRPS and provide a return address for receipt of tickets.

GPNA 1st Annual Garage Sale/Flea Market

GPNA is announcing our first annual garage sale/flea market.  Anyone can rent a space starting as little as $25 or stop by during the day to find a great deal or bargain!  There will be food for purchase and a great time in the park. Come join us!

Admission is free to all others.

This is a new fund raising event for GPNA to help support our neighborhood improvement initiatives.  This includes crime prevention and education, housing code compliance, neighborhood clean-up, graffiti removal, and many neighborhood events such as the Annual Easter Egg Hunt and National Night Out.

This is a wonderful way to help out an incredible charity...Kid's Food Basket. Come on down and celebrate Earth Day all while helping feed local children! Grand Rapids Yoga for Peace presents an evening with Michael Cohen Kirtan to benefit Kids' Food Basket.

Kirtan is a participatory experience of call and response chanting that will calm your mind,open your heart and build deep connection to yourself, and your community. Mike Cohen blends Eastern spiritual traditions with Western musical influences such as jazz, funk, R&B, soul and gospel. He ignites the room with love and happiness, opening us to a deeper connection with ourselves, our neighbors and our world.

Make sure to bring a mat or meditation cushion for seating ~ only limited chairs available!

Free woodchips for landscaping!

The City of Grand Rapids offers free woodchips!   They are available at 2001 Butterworth Ave SW. They are free of charge and can be picked up from the first Monday in April through the second Saturday in December  during the hours of 9 am to 4:45 pm, Monday through Saturday.   Bring your buckets and a shovel and get ready to spruce up your yard!

The City of Grand Rapids Yard Waste drop off site also offers a drop-off site for residential yard waste. Grand Rapids city residents can drop-off leaves, brush, and tree branches at 2001 Butterworth SW. The days of operation are Monday through Saturday during the hours of 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
