Wedgwood Christian Services to honor David and Carol Van Andel for 20+ years of stewardship

Wedgwood Christian Services (www.wedgwood.org) announced the selection of David and Carol Van Andel as recipients of the prestigious Doug and Lois Nagel Leadership Award.  The Award is presented to those “who have been exemplary in the investment of their hearts, counsel and resources to ensure the services of Wedgwood’s ministry,” said Connie Frazier, Wedgwood’s Chief Advancement Officer.

The couple, who have been involved for nearly 25 years with the Grand Rapids nonprofit organization dedicated to helping hurting children, will be honored at Wedgwood’s 54th Anniversary Celebration Dinner set for Tuesday, October 28 at 7 p.m. at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.

David and Carol served as honorary co-chairs of Wedgwood’s successful $10 million capital campaign, Growing Hope for Children.  The campaign, which concluded in 2013, included the development and opening of Wedgwood’s Manasseh Project, Michigan’s first specialized residential trauma recovery center for female minor victims of sex trafficking.

Carol, who is a longtime member of Wedgwood’s Advisory Council, served on the Campaign Cabinet of the organization’s 2008 Building Hope for Children capital campaign.  The campaign included the expansion and renovation of several youth residential treatment homes, one of which is named in honor of the couple’s notable gift.

“Dave and Carol’s love for Wedgwood is felt deeply throughout the fabric of our organization,” explained Sam Beals, Wedgwood’s President & CEO.  “Over the years, Dave and Carol have continuously stepped up to the plate, leading active, hands-on roles in extending our mission with faith, hope and service.  I know I speak for the entire Wedgwood family when I say thank you for their continued advocacy and trust in our work.”

Doug and Lois Nagel, Grand Rapids residents and philanthropists, have provided dedicated service to Wedgwood since the organization’s inception in 1960.  This includes countless hours of work with Wedgwood’s Guilds, and leadership, construction coordination and financial support toward the development of Wedgwood’s Nagel Chapel and Conference Center as well as the organization’s Chaplaincy & Young Life services.
