GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—While many people are shopping for what their loved ones want this holiday season, some families in Eastown are struggling to meet their basic needs.

That’s the reason behind a donation drive by Eastown Community Association.  ECA is teaming up with Eastown Ministries to collect items for children in need, now through December 17. 

Items needed include:


  • Family movies/popcorn
  • Gift cards (to grocery stores, movies, etc.)
  • Markers/crayons
  • Children’s books


  • Diapers/wipes
  • Bottles
  • Onesies

Boys (Ages 5-17):                                                                                                                                                

  • Socks/underwear
  • Slippers
  • Sweatshirts
  • Boots

Girls (Ages 5-17):

  • Colorful socks/underwear
  • Clothing
  • Tank tops for under clothes
  • Leggings for warmth
  • Slippers
  • Boots

Older Youth:

  • Bus passes: single/10-ride
  • Gift cards
  • Shampoo/conditioner (appro­priate for African-American hair)
  • Body spray/perfume
  • Feminine hygiene products

Donations can be dropped off through at the ECA office located at 415 Ethel SE.  Items will be accepted during office hours (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) before December 17.

Eastown Ministries was founded in 1996.  The religious organization serves about 80 youth a week.
