My Town: Breton Village mall announces expansion and new retailers

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—As one store winds down business in Breton Village mall, two more are getting ready to move in.

Weeks after the owners of Pooh's Corner announced they are closing, Breton Village said Wednesday that Lululemon Athletica and Hot Mama have agreed to move into a new building being built at the mall.  Construction is underway on the 24,500 square foot facility, which is located at the corner of Breton and Burton.  The complex’s fourth and final building will have enough space for five to eight new retailers.

Breton Village currently includes Leigh’s, Anthropologie, Ann Taylor LOFT, JB and Me, Fitzgeralds, and D&W Fresh Market, among others.

Lululemon has been operating out of a temporary showroom in East Grand Rapids’ Gaslight Village for the past 18 months.  The business sells athletic apparel for a variety of activities, including yoga and jogging.  This will be Lululemon’s first permanent store in West Michigan.

Hot Mama is also moving out of Gaslight Village, where it has been located for seven years.  The retailer wanted to expand, but couldn’t do so within Gaslight Village.  Its new facility will be 40 percent larger, giving the boutique shop more space to provide trendy, age-aproporiate clothes for moms.

“Signing Lululemon and Hot Mama continues the trend of the Breton Village area as the dominant fashion and ‘go to’ shopping center featuring some of the best local and national retailers,” said CWD Real Estate Investment managing partner Scott Wierda.

The new Breton Village building will feature terra cotta siding accents, aluminum storefronts, and an outside plaza for yoga.

“This new location is ideal for Lululemon and our desire to provide athletic apparel and host in-store events, workshops, and yoga classes,” says Lululemon Community Relations Manager Nina Gardner. “We are excited to be a part of the Grand Rapids community.”

CWD expects to finish construction on the facility later this fall.
