Honoring West Michigan's service dogs

WALKER, Mich.—The Humane Society of West Michigan is looking for service dogs, police dogs and retired military dogs to honor during its annual fundraiser, “POMA for Pets.”

The fundraiser is presented by the Professional Orchestral Musicians Association of Grand Rapids (POMA-GR) and includes musical performances, dancing dogs and a tribute to service dogs.

The event is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. John D’Asaro, Ada Hospital for Animals and Whiskers Resort and Pet Spa.  Last year, “POMA for Pets” raised $6,000 for the Humane Society of West Michigan; organizers hope to beat that number this year.

The event will take place Sunday, July 21 at 3 p.m. at Wealthy Street Theatre, located at 1130 Wealthy St. SE in Grand Rapids. Children age five and under are free; tickets are $25 each for everyone else.  Visitors who bring in a donation for Kibble Konnection can get a free pop and bag of popcorn from the concession stand.

If you know a service dog that should be honored, or to purchase tickets, please contact organizer Martha Bowman at (616) 363-9716 or bocalmom@comcast.net
