Chamber prepares for the annual end of summer event

Wyoming-Kentwood, MI (January 12, 2011) – The annual event has grown through the years to over 300,000 visitors and over 15,000 vehicles. Last year, with beautiful weather, the event hosted record breaking numbers. Organizers are looking for an even larger turnout this year. There has been momentum within the 28th Street merchants’ community to increase event participation. Many of the businesses are reaching out to the visitors and welcoming them with specials, activities and event oriented activities. The Metro Cruise® was started as a method of helping businesses along the 28th Street corridor when highway M-6 opened.

This year’s venues are currently under development. These hub areas will include many of the planned activities including NASCAR simulators, a DJ on premise with giveaways, food vendors, Metro Cruise® merchandise, the annual Metro Million Display of high end classic vehicles, an automotive swap meet and car corral for selling vehicles, a classic sock hop, and Foremost Insurance displays. Many other attractions are also under consideration.

The Foremost Insurance 28th Street Metro Cruise® is run entirely by a staff of volunteers with sponsors providing economic support to the event. Companies interested in sponsoring the event should contact David Szidik, Chairman of the event, or Ken Malik, Wyoming Kentwood Area Chamber of Commerce President. The Chamber number is 616-531-5990.

A new, updated website for the Metro Cruise® should be available shortly for updated information. This website can be accessed at www.MetroCruise.org.
