GR/Wyoming market holds 5th place position in

Walmart's national "Fighting Hunger Together" Facebook campaign


WHAT:                  With just over 48 hours until the 7 p.m., Dec. 31st voting deadline, FightHungerGR.org is making a final push to win $1 million for area hunger relief organizations as part of Walmart's "Fighting Hunger Together" campaign.  FightHungerGR.org is encouraging greater Grand Rapids-area Facebook users to:


  1. Vote for our community:  Go to http://www.fighthungergr.org/ and click "Like" before the 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 31 deadline.  Anyone with a Facebook account can participate and there is no charge to "Like" or vote.
  2. Share the link with friends and encourage them to vote, share and comment.

WHO:                    All West Michigan Facebook users


WHY:                    With a hunger rate of 19.4 percent-more than double the national average-the greater Grand Rapids area ranks among the 100 American cities with the highest food hardship rates.  Walmart has launched the "Fighting Hunger Together" campaign to determine which of these 100 communities will receive a total of $1.5 million to fight hunger.  The six communities that receive the highest number of Facebook user "Likes," or votes, before 7 p.m. on December 31 will receive the funds. The first place community will receive $1 million, with each of the five 2nd- 6th place vote getters receiving $100,000. The Grand Rapids/Wyoming market currently stands at #5. All dollars will be awarded to qualified hunger relief organizations in the winning communities. Special thanks to the generous and supportive community who has continued to keep the greater Grand Rapids area in contention for funds and to several organizations who have donated services to assist in efforts: Admirroration, Bird Design, CBS Outdoor, Clark Communications, Davenport University, Grand Rapids Griffins, Hanon McKendry, and Vizidef Display.
